Family Units The data from searches are first shown with a list of ALL names for the family last name in the search. So a family might show numerous names, from the same family unit. Actually the system was designed to allow up to 7 names in each family unit. The passenger records normally indicated people traveling together as a single record with several first names. We recorded up to 7 names as a "family unit" and if there were more than 7 people in the traveling family unit, it was split into two records. So if you see several people with the same last name, it is possible that when you View that family that you will see the same family details page. The majority of the people who came to Galveston were either single men, or wives with children. There were MANY complete families, but more often they came at different times. The men seemed to come first, to make enough money to afford to bring the rest of the family over. The Good Old Days were NOT so good.
